When you head to the library or bookstore this weekend with the kiddos, keep an eye out for The Snail and the Whale by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Axel Scheffler.
The Snail and the Whale is the story of an unlikely duo who travel the world. It is the story of a snail who is desperate to go somewhere else. All the other snails laugh at his daring and adventurous ambition, but the snail doesn’t give up and solicits help. Enter the whale.
The whale takes the snail through the waters to worlds and wonders vastly different from the snail’s home dock. But then the whale gets beached and needs help. Can the snail save his friend?
True, it takes a bit of imagination to get on board with the likelihood of a snail staying attached to a whale through miles and miles of journey, but this here is the children’s book business and we do imagination. The story is told in solid and delightful rhyme making it an enjoyable read-out-loud book. Inspire your little one to be an explorer, world-traveler, or adventurer!
